Déborah Carlson-Burkart has extensive experience in the areas of corporate law, corporate governance, legal risk management and compliance.
For 15 years, Déborah Carlson-Burkart headed the legal departments of various listed multinational companies in the financial, technology and engineering sector, both in the USA and Switzerland, which underwent major transformations. She also was a member of their management boards. Since January 2015, she has been working as an independent lawyer.
In parallel with her national and international board mandates, she has been a guest lecturer in the EMBA program of the University of St. Gallen (HSG) in the area of corporate governance and compliance since August 2021. Since November 2021, she has also been a guest lecturer and Faculty Chair in Risk and Compliance at the Swiss Board School/St. Gallen (HSG) in the VR-CAS program.

Her academic education includes a Master of Law (LL.M.) from Duke University School of Law (USA) in 2000 and a law degree (lic. iur./Master) from the University of Zurich, which she completed in 1996. She was admitted to the bar in Switzerland in February 2000.
Furthermore, she has completed numerous advanced training programs, including the “AI: Implications for Business Strategy” program at the MIT Sloan School of Management (2024), the International Directors Program at INSEAD in France (2019), a certification in Anti-Money Laundering at STEP in England (2018), a certification in Family Business Governance (2012) and a certificate in Advanced Negotiation and Mediation Program at the Harvard University in the US (2000).
