Over more than two decades, Rick has represented private equity funds, commercial and investment banks, Fortune 500 companies, multilateral development banks and US government agencies in project, trade and acquisition financings, asset-based and working capital facilities, and infrastructure and energy financings.
Rick has significant experience advising on doing business in emerging markets. He has closed transactions in most Latin American jurisdictions and has advised on matters across Europe, Asia and Africa.
Within the trade finance space, Rick has also led commodity, inventory and supply chain finance through letters of credit, pre-export credit facilities, and the purchase and sale of trade receivables. Cross-border syndicated, secured lending also forms a substantive part of Rick's experience.
Before joining Eversheds Sutherland, Rick practiced at a major global law firm, where he led the Trade Finance Practice for the Americas.
He is ranked Band 1 for Projects: Agency Financing – USA – Nationwide by Chambers & Partners USA, which notes his experience with the financing of energy projects for agency lenders in Asia and South America. Rick has also been ranked by Legal 500 in connection with his extensive experience in projects in Latin America.
Prior to his legal career, in the early 1990s, Rick served as a speechwriter and translator for Costa Rican President and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Oscar Arias.
