Four Eversheds Sutherland Attorneys Recognized by Texas Super Lawyers

The designations are the result of an annual survey conducted by the publication, which focuses on professional achievement and peer recognition.

Mr. Baay, Co-Leader of the US Energy Litigation team and Partner in Charge of the Houston office, represents the energy industry in commercial litigation. His clients include multinational oil companies, drilling contractors, pipeline operators, oilfield service companies and multi- commodity traders. With trial and arbitration experience that spans the past 18 years, Mr. Baay counsels his clients in high-stakes litigation and other crisis situations. He was part of the team that represented Transocean Deepwater Drilling, Inc., in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill litigation.

Mr. McLaughlin, a partner in the Houston office, is widely recognized as an authority for bet-the-company labor and employment cases. A ‘go-to’ litigator for clients facing trade secret, fiduciary, discrimination, wage and hour, and ‘C-Suite’ matters, he also has deep traditional labor experience, having handled litigation against unions, union elections supervised by the National Labor Relations Board, strikes and many labor arbitrations. With a national litigation practice, Mr. McLaughlin has a successful track record for defending Fortune 200 companies in multimillion-dollar claims before state and federal courts in numerous trials and arbitrations.

Mr. Mendiola, a partner in the Austin office, advises clients in both litigation and transactional matters involving energy and regulatory law with a focus on the Texas electric energy market. With more than 20 years of commercial and regulatory litigation experience, Mr. Mendiola represents utilities, private equity investors and other clients in state and federal court and before the Public Utility Commission of Texas and other state agencies. He also advises clients on the regulatory aspects of complex energy transactions, including infrastructure development, asset sales and joint ownership arrangements.

Mr. Roberts, resident in the Houston office, has more than 40 years of experience in courtrooms litigating environmental, energy, commercial, international insurance, maritime and professional services matters. Recognized nationally for his litigation, insurance and maritime knowledge, he tries cases in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Roberts concentrates much of his practice on complex legal issues surrounding offshore drilling rigs, platforms and vessels of all types including the representation of the drilling contractor involved in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill litigation.
