Food for thought: Eversheds Sutherland restructuring team advises Boparan Restaurant Group on acquisition of GBKOctober 22, 2020
Eversheds Sutherland has advised Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) on its acquisition of Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) and 35 of its trading sites, saving over 600 jobs. GBK, a restaurant chain in the UK and Ireland specialising in gourmet burgers, has been operating on a reduced basis following the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. The sale, facilitated by way of a ‘pre-pack’ administration, has secured a ‘go forward’ portfolio of 35 sites and 669 jobs. GBK will join the likes of Cinnamon, Fishworks, Carluccio’s, Slim Chickens, Giraffe and Ed’s Easy Diner under the BRG brand. The Eversheds Sutherland Restructuring team was led by Partner Jenna Poulton, who was supported by Legal Directors Anne-Louise Lawrence and Amanda Smith, and Jas Pangli, Associate. Jenna Poulton commented: “We are delighted to have assisted Borapan again, having previously acted on its acquisition of Carluccio’s back in May,” said Jenna Pulton, partner in our Restructuring team. “This is a pivotal time for the hospitality industry, and being able, once again, to draw on our technical experience and knowledge to help ensure key brands can continue to survive the current challenges has been a welcome opportunity. We look forward to supporting Boparan in the future.” Key contacts
