Anthony leads his clients through the legal issues presented by the structural and regulatory changes underway in college athletics, including by counselling on student-athlete payment structures and considerations, compliant name, image, and likeness (NIL) frameworks, College Sports Commission regulations and process, dynamic sponsorship opportunities, and multimedia rights arrangements.
The evolution of the collegiate model presents new challenges and opportunities to NCAA member institutions. Anthony actively advises on difference-making revenue generation and funding legal structures, including by bringing to bear the firm’s deep experience in data privacy and security, artificial intelligence (AI), tax, and private market transactions, as well as its broad international reach.
Anthony also guides institutions in developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance compliance with NCAA rules, institutional cap requirements, and third-party NIL regulations. When disputes arise, Anthony works to resolve College Sports Commission and related matters efficiently, limiting the drain on institutional resources and promoting institutional integrity and student-athlete welfare.
Anthony joined Eversheds Sutherland from the NCAA, serving most recently as Associate Director of Enforcement. In that role, he led investigations, recommended sanctions for rules violations, and negotiated case resolutions.
Prior to joining the NCAA, Anthony spent over a decade litigating complex commercial cases at leading New York City law firms where he tried numerous cases to decision.
