Ed is a Senior Associate in Eversheds Sutherland’s contentious tax practice whom has a particular focus on indirect taxes (including VAT, IPT and Customs Duties).
Ed has a real passion for the area and advises clients from a wide sector base on disputes with HMRC, from pre-action all the way through to trial. He is well respected by HMRC and is often able to find non-contentious solutions for clients facing complex litigation. Ed also advises clients from a wide sector and in line with the firm’s financial services specialism is well versed in providing complex VAT / Indirect tax advice to a number of financial institutions, including, Gresham House Energy Storage Fund PLC, Santander, Worldpay and others. He also provides strategic advice on VAT issues faced by overseas suppliers of both goods and services to UK consumers (tackling complex import VAT and place of supply rules questions). He is well respected by HMRC and is often able to find non-contentious solutions for clients facing complex litigation.
Ed advises clients on domestic and international indirect and direct taxation matters, and leverages his disputes experience to obtain positive positions for his clients, both with HMRC and with counterparties.
He has worked on four tax judicial review claims, which is rare for an associate of his tenure.
Ed is recognised as a “key lawyer” in the Legal 500 for Tax Litigation and Investigations and is praised for his “extraordinary attention to detail.”
