Our Paris Banking and Finance team has advised investment funds Isalt and Raise on the financing aspects of their acquisition of Broceliand, an EdTech company behind the collaborative digital content platform Pearltrees.
Broceliand specialises in educational software, including tools for tutoring, organising and sharing content, alongside a complementary publishing activity for textbooks and educational materials. The transaction will support the continued development of Pearltrees, which was launched in 2010 and enables users to organise, explore and share digital content.
Pearltrees is currently used by 10 million people worldwide and Broceliand aims to become a leading European player in this area, while pursuing new investment opportunities. Building on its success with the general public, the company has also developed a version of Pearltrees tailored to the needs of secondary schools and designed to comply fully with the trust and safety standards set by the French Ministry of Education.
The Eversheds Sutherland team was led by Benjamin Marché, Partner, with support from Florana Benabid, Senior Associate, and Yasmina Taki, Associate. Rothschild & Co acted as financial adviser to Isalt, Raise and Broceliand. Gide advised the funds on corporate and tax matters, Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer advised Banque Populaire Val de France, acting as Mandated Arranger and Underwriter, on the financing aspects of the transaction, and the sellers were advised by Viguié Schmidt & Associés.
