Jonathan Freimann advises clients on all aspects of cybersecurity and data privacy, with a focus on the intersection of privacy and sports.
His practice spans national security, complex regulatory compliance, investigations, white-collar defense, and enforcement matters.
Jonathan works with stakeholders across the sports industry to develop AI risk assessments, privacy strategies, and personal information governance policies. He has partnered with clients to address strategic challenges related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), and regularly counsels clients on privacy and data governance issues in emerging areas of sports business and technology. He has also advised an international company on navigating privacy regulations for business expansion into Japan.
Before joining Eversheds Sutherland, Jonathan served in the National Security Division of the United States Department of Justice, where he supported U.S. victims of terrorism in foreign criminal justice systems. He previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Connecticut, leading long-term investigations and multi-defendant prosecutions. Jonathan is a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as both a federal prosecutor and defense counsel. He deployed as a Strategic Effects attorney during Operation Iraqi Freedom and helped establish the Navy’s global victims’ program. Earlier in his career, he clerked for the Honorable Henry Coke Morgan, Jr. in the Eastern District of Virginia.
He is the recipient of the 2019 Assistant Attorney General Award for Excellence and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).
