Eversheds Sutherland has advised Schroders Greencoat on its acquisition of APF Energy, a biomethane platform headquartered in the Netherlands, from SWEN Capital Partners and APF BV.
The transaction represents a further step in Schroders Greencoat’s strategy to expand its exposure to renewable gas infrastructure. Biomethane is increasingly recognised as a key component of the energy transition, particularly in sectors where electrification is difficult, offering a low-carbon alternative that can be integrated into existing gas networks.
The Netherlands is considered an attractive market for biomethane development, supported by strong regulatory frameworks, extensive gas infrastructure and a significant supply of agricultural feedstock. This investment provides Schroders Greencoat with a platform to build further scale in a market that continues to play an important role in Europe’s transition towards a more sustainable and secure energy system.
Pieter Paul Terpstra, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, commented: “We are delighted to have supported Schroders Greencoat on this strategic acquisition, which reflects the growing role of biomethane in the energy transition. This transaction highlights both the strong momentum in renewable gas development in the Netherlands and our team’s ability to deliver on complex cross-border mandates in the energy and infrastructure sector.”
The Eversheds Sutherland team was led by Pieter Paul Terpstra, supported by Jacob Bierens de Haan, Nathalie Djojokasiran (Corporate), Marc van Beuge (Energy), Natascha Geraedts, Frank Eliasberg (Planning), and Thijs Dalmolen (Employment).
