The day coincided with Brazil’s National Day of Black Consciousness, honoring the contributions of Afro-descendant communities and reinforcing the need for equity and justice in climate governance. Thematic Focus: Advancing action, from promises to progressDriving Innovation for a Sustainable Future Finep unveiled three new financing lines totaling R$460 million, reinforcing its role in accelerating the energy transition. The new calls include: Pró-Amazônia 2025, focused on the Amazon region; Collections Recovery and Preservation, supporting archives, libraries, and cultural institutions; and Bioeconomy and Sustainability Investment Funds, investing in Brazilian businesses developing green technologies. While these initiatives are national in scope, their impact could extend globally through technology transfer, international partnerships. A people centered approach The focus on people-centered climate action underscores COP30’s commitment to a just transition and inclusive sustainability. Events highlighted the leadership of women and girls of African descent and explored how solidarity among marginalized groups can drive climate justice. These dialogues align with the Paris Agreement’s human rights principles and global sustainability goals by integrating ancestral knowledge and community-driven solutions into adaptation strategies. This approach aims to deliver tangible benefits for vulnerable groups, making social equity a cornerstone of COP30’s agenda. Dialogues for Equity and Inclusion Workshops and panels advanced race-sensitive climate solutions, considering how to better integrate human rights and ethnic-racial equity into climate policy. Participants examined ways to embed minority community knowledge into adaptation strategies, strengthen disaster response capacities, and align with global frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Durban Conference outcomes. These discussions reinforce COP30’s commitment to a just transition by ensuring climate governance addresses systemic inequalities and empowers marginalized communities as active agents of change.
